Answers to Questions

WHAT IS HAPPENING?
A Developer wants to change our current zoning from one home per acre to allow up to 10 times that many. More profit for him but this overdevelopment is bad for Solon. Solon Council rejected the proposal. The developer forced the issue on the May 8th ballot. Right now 32 acres are involved, but we're concerned about the potential for rezoning of 175 acres next door.

WHERE IS THIS REZONING?
The 32 acres is between Cleveland Metroparks Hawthorn Parkway and Hawthorn Valley Country Club. Although the address and mailbox list Aurora Road, the majority of traffic will enter from Hawthorn Parkway, across Metroparks' land and All Purpose Trail. At present, only a single driveway uses this easement.

WHAT WOULD WE LOSE?
The protection we count on from our well-planned zoning laws.
We lose the peace and quiet of the adjoining Metroparks land - which they tout as a buffer.

WHAT ELSE IS AT STAKE?
The adjoining 175 acre Hawthorn Valley Country Club (owned by the same developer) could be developed, claiming this rezoning as a precedent. There could be as many as 1700 new houses built there, flooding Solon schools and maybe flooding elsewhere, affecting all of Solon- not just the northwest corner.

WHY SHOULD THIS MATTER TO ME?  (I don’t live nearby.)
If Solon becomes a less desirable city because of overbuilding or flooding or deteriorating schools then your property values and equity in your home goes down. A home is usually your biggest asset. Don't risk it.

WHAT HAS BEEN DONE?
SOLON TAXPAYERS AGAINST REZONING (STARS) a group of Solon residents have formed a committee to educate the public and defeat this issue on May 8th.

WHAT SHOULD I DO?
We believe every Solon resident should vote -
NO REZONING May 8th.
The developer hopes the voter turnout will be low and allow this change. Spread the word

CAN I HELP????    YES!
*Spread the word with the bumper stickers (they are just cling-easy off)
*Put up a yard sign.
*Talk to your friends and neighbors.
*Write a letter -- to the Solon Times and the Solon Sun Herald as well as the Plain Dealer
*Hand out information; get people to vote - in person or absentee.

VOTE    NO REZONING     MAY 8TH
